Thoughts on Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

People expected so much from Harry Potter and the Cursed Child that they all feel disappointed now. I don’t. It’s a play and not a novel.

I didn’t expect every single character from the whole entire series or even half of it to be in here and their actions to be justified as much. People complain the lack of James Potter and the other children. Didn’t you know the plot of this script? It focuses on Albus and Scorpius (I love these two, by the way. The way they met is “a direct parallel of Harry and Draco’s first meeting in reverse.” ) Of course, there wouldn’t be much of the others. It’s a PLAY.

I am not a literary genius and I don’t know too much about playwrights, but I know when a story is good. It moved me. It took me back to my childhood days. It is very nostalgic. It made me laugh. It made me cry. It made me feel. And I think that’s what matters the most. The way it made you feel. It may not be great, but it’s good.

Of course, there will be flaws. There always are. Even the movie adaptations, right? You can’t expect everyone to like a story or a character the same way others do. We all have our preferences. The author’s favorite doesn’t necessarily have to be your favorite. Sometimes they see things that we don’t and that what makes the conversation and retelling of stories goes and lives on.

I may say that it’s sort of funny with the Voldemort thing, though. But you can’t deny the fact the he would do everything to leave something of him alive, wouldn’t he? You have read the series; you know how he did. I don’t want to spoil much so you can hit my Inbox and let’s talk about this.

I didn’t see Harry as a bad father here just like some of you say. I think he is just as lost when he was a child and just as stupid sometimes but never bad.

“Love blinds. We have both tried to give our sons, not what they needed, but what we needed. We’ve been so busy trying to rewrite our own pasts, we’ve blighted their present.”

Really. Do you guys read? You are all so busy criticizing it that you forgot to see through its depth.

Also, I think the thing with the time-turner is genius. Did you really read all the books? Magic travels through time. It’s just about right to represent it that way. And to think of saving Cedric? I am touched. I love the guy! Sure, his death is vital to the whole series but so is the Prophecy (or Prophecies, for that matter).

Let us not forget how this script revived our Dramione’s heart. I was smiling like an idiot when there’s interaction with the two. I’m really sorry, Ron. I see you haven’t changed much in those years that passed, though. Thanks for a good laugh on this.

And Snape. Need I say more? Just always.

I couldn’t ask for more, really. We have lived through years thinking that the Deathly Hallows would be the last. This is still a good treat for us, Potterheads.

All these reviews, good or bad, lead us to one big question: WHO IS THE CURSED CHILD? It’s Harry, right? It’s always about Harry and something or someone else. His but not entirely. Harry and the Sorcerer’s Stone, the Chamber of Secrets, the Prisoner of Azkaban, the Goblet of Fire, the Order of the Phoenix, the Half-Blood Prince, the Deathly Hallows. I guess it’s about time to name this one for Harry and Harry. He acquired the scar from a curse after all. The Boy Who Lived who caused us too much death. Such a curse.

On the other note, we are all cursed. Aren’t we? And all these characters. We are all bound in love. In friendship. In magic. Once you get too attached in all these, it will both save you and destroy you. Avada Kedavra!
