Why I love Bangtan

As a frustrated poet, I tend to look for poetry everywhere. Now you ask what it has to do with why I love Bangtan? I only have one word for it: poetic.

They scream poetry. I don’t have to look hard to see that in them. It’s like an innate aura that radiates from them individually—and together, like the celestial bodies above, they light up the whole universe.

When you look up the word in the dictionary, it says: “having an imaginative or sensitively emotional style of expression”.

I fell in love with BTS’ music before I really get to know their names and faces and some non k-pop fans be like: “How can you fall in love with something you don’t even understand?”

Listen up, music is meant to be felt. Sounds are meant for the ears. It’s a simple logic called common sense. Anyway, I can’t understand myself most of the times either but I still love me. Hahahaha! What I’m saying is, there’s this thing called “learning”. I can study Hangeul. I can Google the lyric translations. It’s not rocket science.

Now, I’m going to expound what poetic means.

EXPRESSIVE AND ARTISTIC

If you’re going to give their videos a chance, you will see the conviction in their faces as they sing and dance. You will see real sweat and perseverance; smiles and enjoyment. They express themselves well.

I love how their appearances change depending on the song. By appearance, it doesn’t end in their looks and clothes. By appearance, I meant the way they move.

They are very artistic when it comes to their music videos. I love how their dance moves are so unique and you can really tell the signature steps in every song. What’s more interesting about them is that not all of them are good dancers (at least, that’s what I was told when I first joined the fandom). I was like “are you kidding?”. The first time I saw their dance practice videos, I thought they all dance well. They really do! They are all so in sync. Choreography is 💯💯

I guess it really does you good when you work hard for something; when you practice so hard you turn into a pro. Isn’t that inspiring?

FIGURATIVE AND SYMBOLIC

SPRING DAY. This is probably my ultimate fave. “Is it you who changed or is it me?” I love how they symbolized youth and adulthood with the train leaving, emptied Omelas, a pile of laundry and shoes hanging up on a tree. Them being together as a youth then one by one, they left. This shows that people really come and go. But sooner or later, they all get there to adulthood. We will all get there. I love it so much I wrote a poem about it.

BLOOD, SWEAT AND TEARS. This is probably the most biblical music video I’ve ever seen (not that I’ve seen much in my life).

When I first saw it, I wondered why it looks so Greek. All those sculptures really did give me this Parthenon vibe. So, I did my research. That includes these things:

If you’re familiar with Greek Mythology, Icarus story is probably one of the best known there is.

Translation: I say unto you: one must still have chaos in oneself to be able to give birth to a dancing star.

The metaphors are so on point! I have read a lot of BTS theory, about the music video and stuff. My mind just couldn’t grasp all the ideas at once. I think it is well thought out. I was mind blown.

The most well written BTS theory I saw online is from Quora. It is a long read but it’s worth it, No time wasted.

Will you now welcome me with open arms, ARMYs? 😂😍 I haven’t been a fan for so long. I’m just trying to be lowkey. I didn’t expect to be this attached to them. It’s intrinsic. It just happened. Idk. But it’s hard to fangirl over them in silence now especially with the upcoming Billboard Music Awards.
